COVID-19 Update – 27 March

You may have been amongst the millions clapping the amazing staff in our NHS and social care sector last night. Thank you if you were - and if you are working in our NHS and social care, I hope you felt all our admiration and gratitude!

Support for the Self Employed

You probably also saw that last night the Chancellor did announce a package to support the self-employed. Since I'd been pushing hard for support for Britain's 5 million self-employed, I'm pleased. But....

I still have real concerns. First, that some may not see any payments until June. Second, that the package excludes a significant number of self-employed people - my own estimate is between 650,000 and 1 million may see nothing from the package.

You can find out more about this package of support here.

Hear my immediate thoughts on the package here.

I am studying the details closely and would really welcome your views, if you are benefitting from this - or have been excluded from the help.
